Recent closures along key highways in the Portland metro area are taking a toll on local shops and restaurants, forcing owners to adapt to a sudden drop in customer traffic. The disruptions, which have affected stretches of Interstate 5 and Interstate 84, are part of ongoing construction and emergency repairs. For businesses that rely on commuters and easy access, the timing could not be worse.

Several coffee shops and bakeries near affected exits reported a noticeable decline in morning sales. One cafe owner near the I-5 corridor said regulars have stopped stopping by because the detours add too much time to their drive.
