Farmers turn social media videos into revenue stream to support business

Zoe Kent and Nick Welker are proving that a smartphone and a sense of humor can be just as valuable as a new tractor. The two farmers recently shared how they have turned their daily chores and rural lifestyles into a serious revenue stream through social media videos. Appearing on the business program "The Bottom Line," they explained that what started as a way to document life on the farm has evolved into a profitable side hustle that supports their core agricultural operations.

Kent, who runs a dairy operation, said her most popular content involves simple, relatable moments like bottle-feeding calves or navigating muddy fields. The real money, however, comes from brand partnerships and direct sales. She noted that companies selling work boots, fencing supplies, and even kitchen appliances pay her to feature their products in authentic settings. Welker, a grain farmer, added that his tractor repair tutorials and harvest time-lapses have attracted a loyal audience. That audience now buys merchandise and donates through platform features.

Both farmers emphasized that the income is not just pocket change. It helps cover rising input costs and equipment maintenance, providing a financial buffer that traditional farming alone often cannot offer. They advise other farmers to start small, focus on genuine content, and ignore the pressure to go viral. The key, they said, is consistency and showing the real, unfiltered work behind the food on the table.
