Ariel Roblin: DACA delays are disrupting lives and business

The slow pace of DACA reauthorizations is causing real harm to individuals and the companies that rely on them. For years, recipients have followed the rules, paid fees, and submitted their paperwork on time. Yet they are now stuck in a bureaucratic limbo that threatens their jobs, their housing, and their basic stability.

Employers are also feeling the pain. Many small businesses depend on DACA recipients as essential workers. When a renewal takes months longer than it should, a trained employee can suddenly lose work authorization. That means lost income for the worker and a gap in the team for the employer. Some businesses have had to let go of valued staff simply because the government cannot process forms quickly enough.

The problem is not a lack of applicants following the rules. It is a system that has not been updated to handle the volume of requests. The government needs to modernize its processing system and hire enough staff to clear the backlog. No one should lose their livelihood, lose a critical employee, or lose their home because of slow paperwork.

This is not a partisan issue. It is a practical one. When the system fails to keep up with the people who are legally allowed to work, everyone pays the price. The solution is straightforward: fix the process, fund the staff, and stop treating DACA renewals as an afterthought. Lives and businesses depend on it.
