A Wilmington, Delaware woman is facing criminal charges after allegedly stealing multiple packages from a local business over a period of several weeks. Authorities say the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Maria Torres, was taken into custody following an investigation by the Wilmington Police Department’s Property Crimes Unit.
According to police reports, the thefts occurred at a commercial establishment located in the 200 block of North Market Street. Surveillance footage captured a woman repeatedly entering the business’s delivery area and removing packages that had been left for employees and customers. The stolen items included electronics, clothing, and office supplies, with an estimated total value exceeding $2,500.
Detectives were able to identify Torres through a combination of video evidence and witness statements. A warrant was issued for her arrest, and she was apprehended without incident at her residence on the 1000 block of West 9th Street. She has been charged with multiple counts of theft, receiving stolen property, and criminal trespassing.
Torres was arraigned in Wilmington Municipal Court and released on her own recognizance pending a future court date. The business owner, who declined to be named, expressed relief that the suspect had been caught, noting that the thefts had caused significant disruption to operations. Police are reminding local businesses to secure their delivery areas and report any suspicious activity immediately. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are looking into whether Torres may be connected to similar thefts in the area.
