Congresswoman Analilia Mejia, who represents New Jersey's 11th District, has been appointed to the U.S. House Committee on Small Business. The assignment was made today following a recommendation from the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. This marks Mejia's second committee post, as she already serves on the House Committee on Homeland Security.
Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries praised the appointment, noting Mejia's background and commitment to economic issues. "Throughout her entire career, she has fought for working families and understands the challenges facing small business owners," Jeffries said in a statement. He added that her presence on the committee will help ensure that Main Street businesses have a strong voice in Washington.
Mejia expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating that small businesses are the backbone of the local economy in her district. She emphasized her focus on reducing bureaucratic hurdles and improving access to capital for entrepreneurs. The committee oversees programs run by the Small Business Administration and handles legislation related to business growth and innovation. With this new role, Mejia joins a growing number of freshmen lawmakers taking on key committee assignments in the current session.
