Amazon Business has launched same-day grocery delivery, a move the company says directly addresses one of the most frequent requests from its corporate and institutional customers. The service, which rolls out immediately in select U.S. markets, allows businesses to order fresh produce, dairy, meat, and pantry staples through the Amazon Business platform, with delivery in as little as a few hours.
The expansion marks a significant shift for the B2B arm of Amazon, which traditionally focused on office supplies, industrial equipment, and bulk consumables. By integrating grocery delivery, Amazon Business aims to serve a wider range of needs for companies that manage break rooms, cafeterias, or employee meal programs. The company noted that small and medium-sized businesses, as well as schools and healthcare facilities, have been asking for a way to streamline food procurement alongside their regular supply orders.
Same-day grocery delivery will be available through Amazon's existing logistics network, including Whole Foods Market and Amazon Fresh. Orders can be placed via the Amazon Business website or mobile app, with pricing and delivery fees tailored to business accounts. The service includes features like tax-exempt purchasing, multi-user account management, and consolidated invoicing, which are standard for Amazon Business customers.
Analysts see the move as a way for Amazon to deepen its hold on the business procurement market, which has grown rapidly during the pandemic as more organizations shifted to online ordering. The grocery delivery option could also help Amazon Business compete with specialized foodservice distributors and traditional wholesale clubs. The company did not disclose a timeline for expanding the service to additional cities.
