My first job out of college was at the INCubator housed in the Hamilton County Business Development Center. That desk gave me something invaluable: a front row seat to possibility. Every day, I watched entrepreneurs walk through the doors with little more than an idea and a fierce determination to make it real. I saw late nights, early mornings, and the quiet resilience of people who refused to let failure define them. What I learned in that building was not just about business plans or pitch decks—it was about the power of community to transform ambition into action.
The incubator is more than a shared office space or a collection of conference rooms. It is a career launchpad, not only for the startups it houses but for the young professionals who work alongside them. For recent graduates, the experience of being inside an incubator offers exposure to real-world problem solving, mentorship from seasoned leaders, and a network that no classroom can replicate. It teaches adaptability, resourcefulness, and the courage to take calculated risks.
Too often, we measure the success of an incubator solely by the companies it produces. But its true impact lies in the people it shapes—the interns, the assistants, the junior staff who go on to become founders, executives, and community leaders themselves. Investing in these spaces is investing in the workforce of tomorrow. The desk I sat at may have been small, but the view it gave me was limitless.
